Recalling my darkest day is as simple as typing a few search terms into a web browser. It only took thirty minutes for me to become the center of a media frenzy that caught the attention of an entire country.
So I hid.
Nine months later and I’m getting better. Moved two hours from home, landed my dream job, and met a delicious new guy.
Healing is that simple, right?
New Point is the first book I have read by this author, I was gifted copy of this book to read for Gemma Reads Too Much.
I think I decided to read this book because I honestly think the cover is beautiful, the model pictured is haunting and everytime I see it I still think “God that’s a great picture” lol.
This story starts off great, Miles and Zoe have a great meet cute and I love a beach love story, but somewhere along the way this book just got a bit blaaaaah.
This book is dual POV but it mainly focuses on Zoe and her issues, to be honest I really struggled to engage with her. She’s a sweet girl and she went through a traumatic event but I just found her a bit annoying.
I don’t want to diminish how horrific a gunman coming into a school is, but I expected a much more traumatic and disturbing flashback. I’m not saying that I would have wanted to read a scene like that but it’s what I was expecting.
This book just didn’t do it for me, Miles and Zoe started off as a cute, sexy couple but then this story turned into more of a self help, motivational guide and I really struggled to stay involved with the plot.
Etta being both Zoe’s boyfriend’s sister and her therapist really felt like a conflict of interest and if I’m honest I really feel like Zoe should have disclosed her mental health issues to her employer especially when she is working with children!!! I know this is nitpicking but it bugged me!!
I’ve just finished reading and to be honest I just feel a bit disappointed and lacklustre, this isn’t badly written. It’s just that the intensity from the first quarter seemed to diminish when the story became more about Zoe than it did about Miles and Zoe.
Sorry but New Point just didn’t meet up to my expectations, I give it 2.5 stars.
