Ruthless by Michelle St James
Mob Boss #1
Two years out of college, Angelica Bondesan spends her time working as a barista, keeping in touch with her prodigal brother, and trying to figure out how to bridge the gap with her father, a wealthy real estate developer.
But all of that changes the night she’s kidnapped. Thrown into a windowless room, Angelica is positive there’s been some kind of mistake — until she meets Nico Vitale.
Gorgeous and frightening, Nico became the boss of New York City’s Vitale crime family after the execution style murder of his parents two years earlier. Since then he’s turned the old-school mob into a sleek, modern army of ruthless men who understand that physical violence — while always an option — isn’t the only way to get what you want.
Now Angel is forced to face the truth;
Her father is not the man she believed him to be.
Nico Vitale is dangerous, possibly lethal.
She is falling in love with Nico Vitale.
Ruthless is book #1 in the Mob Boss series and the first book I have read by this author, I was gifted a copy of this book to read for Gemma Reads Too Much.
Ok so I read the blurb for this book and though ‘I love mob books’ then I thought ‘but you hate Stockholm syndrome books’. I ummed and ahhhed about if I should read it for a good week or so but kept coming back to it.
I will be honest I kind of started reading dreading that this would turn into a mind fuck kidnapping story. I know that some people love that level of darkness; I’m not one of them!!
Thankfully this book is not one of those books!!!!!
This is a cool book set in a dark world, but it’s not what I would class as a dark romance.
Angel is a nice girl forced into a fucked up situation, amazingly she is incredibly badass about it all. I’m so glad she didn’t turn into one of those weepy girls who burst into tears every 3 seconds. Instead she is a solid tower of strength and I found myself kind of admiring her.
Considering Nico is a mob boss he is the absolute best kind of bad, I love an antihero!!! Why mob books are great is that take people that we would normally call monsters and make them brooding and intense. Instead of being appalled at Nico’s blasé attitude at drugging and kidnapping a girl I was sucked into the romance and came out thinking oh but he loves her so much.
I loved the constant tension and drama and I allowed myself to get carried away with this story.
I felt like the sex was a bit samey and could have been solo much sexier which was disappointing in a book like this.
I was gob smacked when I got to the last page and it ended how it ended!!!
I hate it when books stop in the middle of the interesting bit!! This book doesn’t have a cliff hanger but it definitely leaves you desperate for more! Thankfully I just had the email come through offering me book #2 Fearless so watch this space for my review.
I enjoyed this book and it restored my faith in kidnap romance.
Fearless gets 4 stars from me.
