RIP by Rachel Van Dyken
But I broke her, and now we both have to pay the price.
I’m her nightmare.
I’m her savior.
And now that I have her signature on an ironclad contract, I own her body and soul.
She doesn’t remember me.
Because as much as I know I need to stay away, for fear of unlocking the memories I helped her father bury–I can’t.
She was the apple in the Garden, dangled in front of me, her core so tempting and sweet. A voice whispered. Just. One. Bite.
Welcome to the world of the Russian mafia, where death, is your only future.
RIP is a new standalone novel by Rachel Van Dyken, I was lucky enough to be gifted an ARC of this book to read for Gemma Reads Too Much.
THIS BOOK IS A MASSIVE MIND FUCK!!!!
It’s like an evil little teasing snake that slithers round your neck and you don’t realise that you’ve stopped breathing until it’s too late!!!.
Honestly I spent most of this book holding my breath; my chest hurts because every other second I was like…. Gasp, oh my god…. Gasp, how could he do it…..? Gasp, who is he
I loved how this book was written, it had all the amazing twists and turns that we get in the Eagle Elite Series but it was much darker and more bitter and angry than that series ever has been.
I read this book so quick; I honestly couldn’t put it down. I’ve been in a bit of a book funk for a few days and this book pulled me straight out of it.
Maya is brilliantly clueless, I was literally shouting at her to remember!!
Nik is the perfect anti-hero; I was gutted for him but sort of hating him at the same time!!
Apparently the Russians are a lot meaner than the Italians and I LOVED it!!
Somehow this book manages to intertwine a romance into this messed tale of manipulation and games. Even more amazing is that the love story was adorable!! I’m totally team Maya & Nik!
I have no idea how this book flips from torture and brain washing to the Elite guys cracking jokes and bantering back and forth. At times I wasn’t sure it worked incorporating the light hearted side of the Italians but it managed to add a spot of sunshine to an otherwise dark and stormy story.
Everything I read by this author has me fangirling and exclaiming how good it was, and yet again this book was fantastic!!
I was ‘in’ this story from the get go and it kept me rapt till the last word.
RIP gets 4.5 stars from me.
“You,” I said simply. “It all leads to you. Everything. And I think, for now…” I leaned up, brushing my lips across his. “That’s all that matters.”
“And if I’m the key to both your survival and your destruction, what then?”
“You mean what if your water is poison?” I asked.
He didn’t answer.
“Then I want to drink.”
There were two seconds.
Two brief moments in time.
When I felt my heart race and wondered if it matched his as Nikolai took a steadying breath… then swallowed hard.
One beat against my chest, and his lips were touching mine.
Two beats as my heart picked up speed, and I could feel the heat of his mouth as he slid his tongue across my lower lip.
I moaned in response, reaching around his neck, grasping fistfuls of his hair and tugging as his body moved against mine. Without breaking the kiss, Nikolai found the hem of my cotton T-shirt, lifted it and pulled it over my head, our mouths parting for seconds before, with a sizzle of heat, they met again, and again. Each time our lips grazed it felt new, and yet familiar, like we’d shared hundreds of kisses, thousands of embraces.
He leaned back and helped me to a sitting position, his muscles flexing from holding his own weight. Moonlight shone across the planes of his firm chest. Something about Nikolai’s masculine beauty was lethal, so dangerous that my heart raced even harder. He frowned, pressing his palm to my chest as if trying to calm me down.
I wasn’t safe.
Not in his arms.
