Review 5 Stars

The Aftermath is book #2 in The Hurricane Series, I was lucky enough to be gifted an ARC of the book to read for Gemma Reads Too Much.

When I finished The Hurricane I didn’t know if there would be a second book so I was over the moon when the opportunity to read The Aftermath was given to me.

Within two pages I was completely drawn back into the story and Em and O’Connell’s world.

This couple…. Gah they are so bloody perfect!!

This whole book is told from O’Connell’s POV and hats off to RJ Prescott for writing a compelling and believable male POV. There was never a moment when the dialogue felt stilted or awkward; it was just O’Connell exactly as I imagined his inner monologue to sound.

In The Hurricane its duel POV but The Aftermath really is O’Connell’s story so it felt perfect that it was all his ‘voice’.

What shines through this book is his absolute love and adoration of Em, I mean he literally worships the ground she walks on and I loved the way he loved her.

Lots of romance story hero’s talk about how much they love the heroine but very few really show that love in a real way. But O’Connell shows Em how he loves her in everything he does, he cares for her and protects her with every cell in his body and I felt so incredibly drawn to his character and this couple.

O’Connell’s is the perfect blend of dangerous and adorable and he definitely hits my top ten book boyfriends for this year.

Poor Em just can’t get a break from her psycho stepdad, and let’s be honest the man is a complete psycho!!! I found him chilling and generally terrifying. I think it’s the complete lack of remorse that makes him so scary.

Oh my god what about Em’s mom, she makes O’Connell’s mom look like a pussy cat in comparison.

Once again this group of characters really show what true ‘family’ should look like. They rally round Em and O’Connell and even though none of them are related by blood they are still family through and through.

I wasn’t sure if this book could match up to The Hurricane but it really held its own, I got completely drawn into this world and read the whole book incredibly quickly.

I feel like Em and O’Connell’s story is finished now but I’m hoping that this won’t be the last book in the series. Kieran, Tommy and Liam all need books because I’m nowhere near ready to say goodbye to these characters yet.

The Aftermath is a beautifully written, moving story of pure love and devotion and I loved it.

It gets 5 stars from me!
