This Man by Jodi Ellen Malpas
This Man #1
Young interior designer Ava O’Shea has an appointment for a first consultation at The Manor with the owner, Mr Jesse Ward. She is expecting nothing more than an overweight, cravat wearing, well-to-do countryman, and on arrival, nothing would suggest otherwise. How wrong could she be? This Man is devastatingly handsome, charming and confident. He is also a conceited, hedonistic playboy, who knows no boundaries. Ava desperately does not want to be attracted to him, but she can’t control the overwhelming effect he has on her. Every instinct is telling her to run, so she does, but Jesse Ward is not so willing to let her go. He wants her and is determined to have her. She knows she is heading for heartbreak, but how can she run when he won’t let her?
This is a re-read review, when I first read this book many moons ago I wasn’t a blogger and I didn’t review. I read for the pleasure of reading and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I have re-read this series several times now but I’ve been pining for Jesse and all his alpha ways for a while so I decided to throw myself back in again.
Now that I blog and review every single book that I read I find that I’m a much more critical reader. I’ve recommend this book to several non-book world friends and honestly they didn’t really enjoy it.
How is that possible???
Ava and Jesse are a fecking nightmare, they argue, makeup then a second later they are arguing again and I get that that could get annoying. But what I see when they fight is two soul mates fighting what fate has planned for them!!!
Jesse is the most extraordinarily alpha characters ever! His behaviour is outrageous and at time down right daft yet instead of hating him it made me a little jealous!!
Who wouldn’t want to be pursued this hard, who wouldn’t want to have this god like creature fall head over heels for you?
I adored Jesses domineering ways, I revel in his bossy, dominant attitude and honestly I want one just like him.
His behaviour is extreme but what I saw for the first time during this re-read is Jesse’s desperation. The poor guy spends most of this book absolutely terrified that Ava is going to leave him. I felt his fear and anxiety and having read the full series I can’t honestly say I kind of understand his behaviour.
Ava sort of falls at Jesses feet, she gets sucked into his vortex and never comes up for air!! People may say she’s a doormat and that she’s manipulated by Jesse but really who can blame her? I’d jump at the chance to be worshipped like Ava is.
Jesse definitely has some issues, a LOT of issues but I also still find him an incredibly likable character whose eccentricities just make him all the more freaking adorable.
OK, prepare yourselves, because now it’s the time to talk about the sex.
ALL OF THE SEX
In fact there is more sex in this than in any book ever!!!
And bloody hell it’s good sex!!
Ava and Jesse have an unbelievable connection they meld together so fecking well that I got carried away and completely absorbed into the scenes!!
This is one of those books that you have to abandon to jump your hubby half way through because you are so bloody horny you feel like you are gonna explode.
Well any Jesse haters out there I’ve got something to say.
All hail the Lord!!
This man gets 5 brilliant, hot and sexy stars.
