Redemptive Wrap

It’s said that your life flashes before your eyes when you die.
It must only happen to those whose lives were worthy.
Clearly, mine was not.
The only thing that happened to me was a repeat of what I thought was my death.
The blast of the gun as it went off.
The loss of my breath as two hundred pounds of dead weight dropped on top of me.
And then darkness.
This replayed over and over.
When the guy squatted down next to me and asked if I was hurt, the only thing I could see, feel,
hear, were those few seconds.
Even now, as I sat in the back of a blacked out van—it was the only thing that ran through my mind.
Gunshot, breath, darkness.

Review 5 Stars

Redemptive is book #2 in the Combative series, I was gifted an ARC of this book to read for Gemma Reads Too Much.

I’m a huge fan of this author and Combative was a great though incredibly elusive story and start to this series.

I had certain expectations of where this book would go and who the bad guys were.

Redemptive blew my mind plus every expectation out of the water!!!

I literally can’t tell you anything about this book because even the slightest hint would completely ruin it for you. So instead I’m going to give you a few of my thoughts….

Sometimes the bad guys can be good guys that have to be bad, but sometimes they act like good guys but do bad things. The guy in this book is both bad and good, I think this story brushes over the bad stuff to focus on the misguided good. Honestly by the end of this instalment I kind of hated him!!!

The girl in this book is heart-breaking and mine broke again and again for her. I hated it for her and with her and even the prettiest of cages are still cages.

This book and this whole series so far are a massive mind fuck and I’m honestly none the wiser at the end of this book than I was at the end of Combative.

I do know that Jay McLean is a genius and that this is not the end of this series and I can’t wait for the next book!!

Redemptive gets 5 stars from me.
