Stars by Malorie Verdant
Grayson Waters at first glance lives life to the fullest, but he is dealing with more than meets the eye. A con artist father in trouble with local mobsters, an illegitimate brother living close by, the pressure of leading his team to the championship game and a desire to pursue a career outside the football field. Decisions need to be made. For Gray, slipping into the shadows with a pretty and observant brunette might be just what he needs to finally make the right ones.
Stars is book #1 in the Penmore Series and the first book I have read by this author. I was gifted an ARC of this book to read for Gemma Reads Too Much.
I love the idea of this book, shy girl watches popular guy it’s such a classic formula that works and I was really looking forwards to reading this twist on it.
Parker is brilliantly clueless and I loved how weird she was. For some reason I find the odd quirky girls so much more relatable than the popular ones and Parker was perfectly strange.
Greyson was the quintessential popular guy honestly he was slightly deeper than the puddle I was expecting but I didn’t really take to him as much as I did Parker.
The best character in this book was Nate so…. I want to say this in shouty capitals SHAME ON YOU!!!!!! How could you!!!
Millie was a whirlwind of red hair and one liners but as quick as she came she was gone and I was gutted.
As much as I loved Parker and tolerated Greyson I feel like this author missed a trick by not letting us really get to know the periphery characters.
This book was cute but it was doomed for me when a certain event happened, I’m not sure I will ever forgive Malorie Verdant For that travesty and it’s the reason why this book gets 3 stars instead of 4.
